    History of beer

The name of the Pauwel Kwak or Kwak is due to Pauwel Kwak , a barman who in 1791 elaborated the recipe of this beer that was served to the travellers who stopped to rest in his inn.

Pauwel devised a wooden support that was attached to the davit and to which a glass could be attached in an elongated shape that allowed the drivers to take good shots of beer during the trip and to have their hands free when leaving it in the wooden support.

This practical glass called "yarda", would become over the centuries, a real element of identity of the beer Kwak itself.

When the Bosteels brewery learned the unique story, it did not hesitate to add the characteristic yard glass next to the original recipe, which has brought such a good commercial return to the brand.
