Whiskey Sour, the correct name

Although many ignore the difference, the correct name is actually whiskey Sour, with the "e", this is because the main ingredient is the bourbon whiskey and not a Scotch whiskey (scotch) or a Japanese whiskey, nor an Irish whiskey but an American distillate. Below, we will continue to call it Whiskey Sour only because it is commonly known as such, also because we understand each other anyway ...

The whiskey sour recipe

The idea is to combine the acidity of lemon with the taste of whiskey making it more pleasant, over time sugar has also been added which obviously makes everything easier for any type of palate. Excellent cocktail especially in hot periods, suitable both as an aperitif and as a relaxing after dinner.

Whiskey Sour ingredients

  • 5 cl (little more than a shot) of Bourbon Whiskey
  • 2 cl (about half a shot) of lemon juice
  • 1,5 cl (less than half a shot) of sugar syrup
  • 1 teaspoon of egg white (optional)

Preparation of the Whiskey Sour

Inside the shaker insert the lemon juice, the sugar syrup, the bourbon whiskey and, if you want a nice white foam on top of the cocktail, add the egg white as well egg. Shake vigorously for a few seconds and pour into the glass filled with ice. Last the preparation by garnishing with a slice of lemon and a cherry, in addition to the color, add a touch of sourness with the lemon slice and contrasting sweetness with the cherry. Your whiskey cocktail is ready.

Which whiskey to use?

In my opinion the most suitable is the Bourbon whiskey from Bulleit, a distillate created for this kind of cocktail, with a strong and spicy taste. However, nothing prevents you from experimenting with other whiskeys, depending on which, will change the flavor and aroma of our whiskey sour cocktail. You just have to choose your favorite whiskey and experiment.
